21 Dallas-area restaurants that are closed now or closing soon

The word “closed” feels awfully permanent, but in this installment of 25 recent restaurant shuffles in Dallas-Fort Worth, we learn that doors open and shut in a variety of ways.

The latest North Texas restaurant news in spring 2025 will be divided into four sections: closed now, closed temporarily, closing eventually and not closed (despite what you may have heard).

We’re just glad none of the permanent restaurant closures were for decades-old businesses, like we saw in a spate of historic restaurant shutterings earlier in 2025.

Closed now in Dallas-Fort Worth

Dough Bro’s Italian Kitchen and Bar in Far North Dallas: The Keller Springs location of pizza t Dough Bro’s closed in late April 2025. Other Dough Bro’s restaurants in Farmers Branch and Plano have also closed. One remains, in Bedford.

The Dallas Morning News named the restaurant a “best bet” for pizza in North Texas: “With a crust that’s crisp-edged, nicely charred and thin but pliable (not crackery), plus good toppings that don’t overwhelm, the pizza’s pretty swell at this Far North Dallas strip-mall spot,” we wrote in 2019. “There’s not much in the way of atmosphere, but the restaurant has table service, some good salads (the Italian tossed salad is tasty, and big enough for two) and a couple of handmade pastas, plus craft beers.”

The restaurant opened in 2010 and was sold to new owners in 2024.

Dough Bro’s Italian Kitchen and Bar was at 5181 Keller Springs Road, Dallas. The restaurant at 1601 Airport Freeway, Bedford, remains open.

Fernando’s Mexican Cuisine in Dallas and Richardson: “What is this awful rumor that Fernando’s is closing?” a friend texted me in early May 2025. It’s no rumor, it’s true: Fernando’s restaurants in Dallas and Richardson both closed May 18, 2025.

Managing partner Anne Cowden explained in a social media farewell that the company was unable to come to a leasing agreement with the landlord at the Dallas restaurant at Midway Road and Northwest Highway. The lease in Richardson will expire soon, too, and she said now “is the appropriate time to close both restaurants.” Both!

Regulars commented they were “heartbroken.”

Fernando’s Mexican Cuisine was at 1250 State Street, Richardson, and 4347 W. Northwest Highway, Dallas.

Hong Kong Restaurant in East Dallas: The longest-running Chinese restaurant in Dallas closed in early May 2025 when the owners of Hong Kong Restaurant retired. The restaurant space on Garland Road, near White Rock Lake, served Chinese dishes like egg foo yung for decades.

Its originating chef, Bill Pon, played an important role in sharing Chinese food and culture with Dallasites.

Hong Kong Restaurant was at 9055 Garland Road, Dallas.

Hugo’s Invitados in Irving/Las Colinas: Mexican restaurant Hugo’s Invitados is “unexpectedly closed” as of mid-May 2025, according to a letter on the restaurant website. The restaurant owners are negotiating with landlords. They told CultureMap Hugo’s was popular among gluten-free diners.

It had another location in Uptown Dallas, replacing the longtime Mi Cocina in West Village. It closed in 2023.

Hugo’s Invitados was at 5240 N. O’Connor Blvd., #160, Irving.

Hypnotic Donuts in East Dallas: Over-the-top doughnut shop Hypnotic closed in East Dallas, as announced on Instagram on May 20, 2025. The shop cultivated a loyal fanbase because of its iconic doughnuts and chicken biscuits. It also hosted quirky community events like polar plunges and 5K races.

Hypnotic Donuts was at 9007 Garland Road, Dallas.

Jasper’s in Richardson: The restaurant that served “gourmet backyard cuisine,” Jasper’s, has closed its final location. The CityLine restaurant in Richardson shuttered in March 2025, taking with it those great blue cheese potato chips and baby back ribs.

Jasper’s was at 1251 State St., Richardson.

Kimzey’s in Argyle: After eight years serving coffee in one of the most unique coffee shops in Dallas-Fort Worth, Kimzey’s closed in Argyle in mid-May 2025.

The restaurant looked like gnomes could live there, with its swirling shingles and meandering rooms. The shop was inspired by the “fairy tale cottages” built by Hugh Comstock in Carmel-By-The-Sea, Calif.

The operators called the news “shocking” and thanked customers on Instagram for their loyalty.

Kimzey’s Coffee was at 429 U.S. Highway 377, Argyle.

Meddlesome Moth in the Dallas Design District: For 15 years, Dallas gastropub the Meddlesome Moth served a great selection of beers and a solid brunch menu. After a series of failed rent negotiations, owner Shannon Wynne is closing May 22, 2025. Go grab a drink and get your photo under the stained glass windows while there’s still time.

The Meddlesome Moth is at 1621 Oak Lawn Ave., Dallas.

Miznon in Deep Ellum: Israeli restaurant Miznon closed in Deep Ellum, but its sibling restaurant in The Colony remains open. Its Texas-based owners say Miznon was always meant to be a small restaurant — and in many parts of the world, customers walk up to a window to order. The Deep Ellum restaurant was too big, and therefore unsustainable, Plano resident Cass Akpunku told The Dallas Morning News.

His team still plans to expand Miznon to other parts of Texas, which is good news for fans of Miznon’s internationally known pitas.

Miznon was at 2639 Main St., Dallas. Miznon remains open at 5808 Windhaven Parkway, The Colony.

La Neta in Dallas: Mexican restaurant La Neta Cocina y Lounge closed in April 2025, according to a lockout notice on the door. The restaurant opened in 2023 in an area near Deep Ellum, surrounded by nightclubs. La Neta originated in Las Vegas, and the Dallas restaurant brought with it some glitz from Sin City. Like: the 24Karne skirt steak taco made with 24 karat gold and flaming watermelon shots at the bar.

Sfuzzi in East Dallas: Pizza shop and wine bar Sfuzzi closed on Henderson Avenue so owners Brandon Hays and Phil Schanbaum can open a restaurant called Hendy’s in its place. Fun fact: Chef Peja Krstic, who owns East Dallas restaurant Mot Hai Ba and new Oak Cliff spot Pillar, is creating the Hendy’s menu.

Sfuzzi was at 2401 N. Henderson Ave., Dallas. Hendy’s is expected to open there in summer 2025.

Tian Tian Chinese Restaurant in Dallas: Preston-and-Frankford restaurant Tian Tian closed May 15, 2025. of a Facebook page called Asian Grub in DFDUB said the owner opened another restaurant in Austin.

One commenter called it “our most favorite place for dim sum.”

Tian Tian Chinese Restaurant was at 18101 Preston Road, Dallas.

UnaVida in Dallas: Mexican restaurant UnaVida closed quietly in Dallas’ West Village. Restaurant owner Mike Karns plans to open another restaurant in its place, WokStar Chinese.

UnaVida was known for its healthful dishes created by Dallas chef Matt McCallister (previously of Homewood and FT33).

UnaVida was at 3699 McKinney Ave., Suite 307 (in West Village), Dallas.

Vida Cafe in Fort Worth: Vegan restaurant Vida Cafe closed May 4, 2025, according to CultureMap. It was an Italian spot that sold pastas, pizzas and the like — all without meat or animal products like cheese or butter. CultureMap reported that the family behind Vida Cafe continues to operate Fort Worth Mexican restaurant Belenty’s Love, which is also vegan.

Vida Cafe was at 3522 Blue Bonnet Circle, Fort Worth.

Wagamama in Dallas: London noodle shop Wagamama closed after less than a year and a half open near the American Airlines Center in Dallas. The “world-famous” restaurant, as The News described it in 2023, had hundreds of locations across the globe and served a variety of Asian dishes, from chicken katsu curry to Korean barbecue beef to bang bang cauliflower.

A note online says Wagamama closed April 28, 2025. Parking was a challenge.

The Whippersnapper in East Dallas: After nine years — and probably nine lives — dive bar and pop-up spot The Whip has closed near Henderson Avenue. It’s expected to reopen before the end of 2025 as Boogie’s, a cocktail bar and house music party spot.

The Whippersnapper was at 1806 McMillan Ave., Dallas. Boogie’s is expected to open there in Q4 2025.

Closed temporarily in Dallas and Richardson

Bottled Blonde near Deep Ellum: You won’t be able to get bottle service at Bottled Blonde for a bit while it’s closed for renovations, according to the bar’s Instagram bio. The Dallas Observer notes that Bottled Blonde has been one of Dallas’ top-grossing establishments for alcohol sales for years, so its temporary closure could be significant for regional alcohol sales.

In 2022, it spawned a second North Texas location, in Fort Worth, which has since closed.

Bottled Blonde is at 505 N. Good Latimer Expressway, Dallas. Reopening date is not yet known.

Del’s Charcoal Burgers in Richardson: One of North Texas’ oldest restaurants, Del’s, is closed temporarily following a grease fire in late April 2025. The fire department declared the fire accidental and no one was injured. It isn’t clear how long it’ll take for the restaurant, open since 1957, to get back in biz.

Closing soon in Dallas

Bangkok at Greenville in East Dallas: Thai restaurant Bangkok at Greenville is closing June 30, 2025, after more than 30 years in business. The restaurant was a staple in the near-SMU area. Restaurants and bars like Milo Butterfingers, Barley House and Ozona stayed while others came and went, and Bangkok was one of the longtimers.

The owners said they’re ready to retire and spend time with their aging parents in Thailand. They are also concerned about increased restaurant costs.

Bangkok at Greenville is at 4503 Greenville Ave., Dallas. It will remain open until June 30, 2025.

Knife in Dallas: Chef John Tesar’s Knife Steakhouse in Dallas is expected to close and relocate in summer or fall 2025. Tesar founded the restaurant more than a decade ago, blending Italian-American classics with steakhouse fare at Mockingbird Lane and Central Expressway, near the Park Cities, Lakewood and SMU.

After Aug. 31, 2025, when the license expires at the Highland hotel in Dallas, Tesar told The News he plans to take the steakhouse name and open another Knife elsewhere in Dallas.

More to come on where Tesar will make his next move and what restaurant will open at the Highland, in Knife’s place.

Knife continues on, temporarily, at 5300 E. Mockingbird Lane, Dallas. Knife restaurants in Plano and Las Colinas are unaffected and remain open.

Not closed, despite what you might have heard!

Chuy’s Tex-Mex in Dallas: While it is true that the 32-year-old Chuy’s on McKinney Avenue and Knox Street closed in April 2025, it is not true that Chuy’s is gone in Dallas. The restaurant relocated a few miles east. Go see what they’re up to on Greenville Avenue.

The relocated Chuy’s Tex-Mex is at 1520 Greenville Ave., Dallas. It opened at 11 a.m. April 28, 2025.

Louie’s in Dallas: Beloved Henderson Avenue pizza t Louie’s is not closed, even though the sign is no longer standing. Call the restaurant and a funny voicemail will set you straight on the no-nonsense pizza t open in East Dallas since 1987:

“Yeah, unfortunately,” the voicemail drones, “the sign blew down, but we’re still open.” It’s still dinner only. Still no kids allowed. They still will not give you ranch dressing.

At least some things never change.

Louie’s is at 1839 N. Henderson Ave, Dallas.

Pepe’s & Mito’s in Deep Ellum: The 30-year-old Tex-Mex shop in Deep Ellum, Pepe’s & Mito’s, is not closing, despite a post on Facebook in late February 2025 claiming it was. Whew! This family-owned spot has been visited by Guy Fieri for Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, and it remains an affordable spot for a quick lunch or dinner. It was never in jeopardy of closure, The News learned. The scare was simply a mistake by a customer who tugged on the wrong (locked) door at another Deep Ellum address.

Pepe’s & Mito’s Mexican Cafe is at 2911 Elm St., Dallas.

The Zodiac in downtown Dallas: Just as we were gearing up to say final goodbyes to one of downtown Dallas’ most influential restaurants, the flagship Neiman Marcus was saved from immediate closure. With it, the sixth-floor restaurant The Zodiac will remain open until at least the end of 2025. More popovers with strawberry butter and orange soufflés for all! For now.
