North Texas teen dies weeks after being critically injured playing ‘senior assassin’ game

Isaac Leal, 17, was a senior at South Grand Prairie High School and a pitcher for the school’s baseball team.

A North Texas teen who was critically injured after falling off the back of a moving vehicle while playing a viral game in April died this week.

Isaac Leal, 17, was participating in a tag-style game called “senior assassin” when the incident occurred. In the game, students attempt to “eliminate” their peers by squirting them with water guns.

Police say on April 21, Leal was riding on the back of a Jeep Wrangler in the 6500 block of Devine Drive in Arlington when he fell off, injuring his head.

The driver of the Jeep stopped and 911 was called. Leal was taken to the hospital, where he was placed on life . He died early Monday after over a month in the hospital.

According to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s office, Leal’s cause of death was blunt force injury to the head. His death was ruled an accident.

Arlington police previously said no criminal charges would be filed after investigating and determining the driver of the Jeep was not driving recklessly and was not intentionally trying to make Leal fall.

In a statement, the department called the situation tragic and encouraged parents to speak with their children about the risks posed by viral games.

A GoFundMe for Leal’s medical expenses has raised about $27,000 as of Thursday, about $3,000 short of its goal.
