Tarrant sheriff investigating death of 3-year-old girl pulled from Eagle Mountain Lake

The Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday it is investigating the death of a toddler who was pulled from Eagle Mountain Lake.

Authorities were working to determine how the 3-year-old girl, who was identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner as Dahlia Bingham, ended up in the water, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

Rescue crews responded to a drowning call at West Bay Marina in the 6900 block of Liberty School Tap Road near Azle at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, authorities said in the statement.

When they arrived, they found two people performing R on the young girl who was on the ground after being pulled from the lake. It was not immediately clear if the two people, described as good Samaritans, knew the victim.

The child was rushed for treatment to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead, officials said.

Investigators did not immediately say if foul play was suspected but Tarrant County criminal investigators were trying to determine how the young girl ended up in the water, according to the news statement.

The medical examiner is expected to identify a cause of death as part of the ongoing investigation, officials said.

It was at least the second water-related fatality in Tarrant County in as many days.

A woman was found dead Tuesday evening in the Trinity River.

Police were called around 5 p.m. to the Trinity River off White Settlement Road. When officers arrived, they found two bystanders trying to pull a woman from the waterway.

The woman was declared dead at the scene after crews were able to retrieve her body, officials have said. The medical examiner identified her as Tabatha Lynn Figueroa, 38. As of Saturday, her cause of death was pending.
