See how Faizan Zaki made it to National Spelling Bee champ

The Plano ISD student won the competition after finishing as runner-up last year.

Plano ISD student and Allen native Faizan Zaki took home the Scripps National Spelling Bee trophy Thursday night — his first win in four trips to the competition.

Faizan, a seventh grader at Rice Middle School, is the 17th winner from Texas and the first since 2022.

He emerged victorious in the 100th edition of the bee by spelling éclaircissement, meaning a clearing up of something obscure.

Here’s his round-by-round path to the championship and winning words from previous years.
