North Texas drivers will pay more to use toll roads beginning in July 2025.
The North Texas Tollway Authority will increase rates beginning July 1 by an average of 1 cent per mile for TollTag holders, from 21 to 22 cents. ZipCash customers without toll tags pay double the TollTag rate. TollTag s are free and do not require a monthly fee.
The increase follows a roughly 1-cent hike in 2023 as part of the agency’s biennial toll rate schedule.
The North Texas Tollway Authority system includes eight roadways, tunnels and bridges in the region, including the Dallas North Tollway and the Bush Turnpike.
The increase will help NTTA repay approximately $8.8 billion in toll bonds used to construct the toll road system and fund improvements included in the NTTA Five-Year Capital Plan, including the current improvement and extension of the Dallas North Tollway and Chisholm Trail Parkway, according to the agency.
Texas leads the U.S. in the number of tollway operators and North Texas is home to more toll operators than any other region in the state. About 1.4 million people in North Texas live in areas where tollways are within a 1-mile radius of their homes and their free road options are among the state’s most congested.
NTTA is urging drivers to be cautious as crews update toll rate road signs in the coming weeks.
