Who is Ludvig Aberg? 10 things to know about one of PGA Tour’s fastest rising stars

Aberg, a Texas Tech product, has already won on tour and participated in a Ryder Cup.

Since leaving Texas Tech to head to the pros, Ludvig Aberg has made an impact on the PGA Tour. With two tour wins under his belt, he is quickly becoming a name to follow.

2. Two PGA Tour wins

Aberg secured his second PGA Tour victory early in the 2025 season, winning The Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines Golf Course.

Aberg delivered an impressive finish to his latest Tour win, posting four birdies on the back nine of his final round. His birdie putt on No. 18 helped him overtake Maverick McNealy by one stroke.

His impressive outing at Torrey Pines also included a hole-in-one on No. 3 during his third round.

Before The Genesis Invitational, Aberg’s first Tour win came at the RSM Classic in Nov. 2023.

3. How he got here

After a pair of dominant seasons at Texas Tech, Aberg finished No. 1 in the 2023 PGA Tour University Ranking. The distinction earned the Eslov, Sweden native PGA Tour hip for the remainder of 2023 season as well as the 2024 season. He was also ranked as the world’s No. 1 amateur.

4. Texas Tech accolades

Aberg won just about every major award college golf had to offer.

As a senior, he swept the Jack Nicklaus Award, the Fred Haskins Award and the Ben Hogan Award. He ed John Rahm as the only player to repeat as the winner of the Ben Hogan Award.

He won a program-record eight times while at Texas Tech, and became the first golfer to win back-to-back Big 12 Conference Championship titles in both 2022 and 2023.

5. Ryder Cup participant

Putting a stamp on his rapid rise in the golf world, Aberg earned a spot on Europe’s Ryder Cup team in 2023 just three months after turning professional.

6. First major appearance

Last year at Augusta National was a pretty memorable one for Aberg, as The Masters was the first major appearance of his career. After going over par in his first round (+1), the 24-year-old found his footing and finished second at 7-under behind Scottie Scheffler.

7. Not only impressive on the PGA Tour

When Aberg isn’t on tour over the weekend, golf fans can catch him competing in the TGL (Tomorrow’s Golf League). The former Red Raider competed for The Bay Golf Club in the league’s inaugural season.

Aberg’s team included fellow PGA Tour golfers Shane Lowry and Wyndham Clark.

8. He’s an Adidas athlete

Patrick Mahomes isn’t the only former Texas Tech athlete sponsored by Adidas. According to Golf Monthly, Aberg signed a multi-year deal with the apparel brand in 2023.

Aberg is prominently seen wearing Adidas gear on the PGA Tour and in the company’s social media ads.

9. Played another sport before focusing on golf as a teen

According to his PGA Tour bio page, Aberg played another sport before focusing on golf at the age of 13. He played soccer in Sweden, lining up as a central midfielder.

Based on a few of his Instagram posts, the Swedish golfer is a big Liverpool FC fan.

10. Has Olympic experience

Aberg got the opportunity to represent Sweden at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. He and Alex Noren were the only Swedish golfers competing in the tournament.

Aberg finished in a tie for 18th at 8-under 276. Scottie Scheffler notably finished with an Olympic-record 19-under 265 to claim the gold medal.
