The Dallas Cowboys held on to the 12th overall pick Thursday night, opting to bolster their offensive line with an Alabama standout.
Tyler Booker was the pick, giving Dallas another key piece as it looks to return to playoff contention under Brian Schottenheimer. Booker couldn’t contain his excitement after he was drafted, running to the stage in Green Bay to celebrate his moment with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
Before he took the stage, Booker learned of his draft fate through a phone call with Schottenheimer, Jerry Jones and offensive coordinator Klayton Adams.
“Listen, you blew us away in the process, brother,” Schottenheimer told Booker. “You’re who we need. You just come here and be you.
“We are so excited. We just want that same dude every day. Be physical and do what you do, man.”

During his exchange with Schottenheimer, Booker brought up a pre-draft meeting where he bonded with the head coach over a Whitney Houston song. Booker then got the opportunity to chat with Adams, who has extensive experience working with offensive linemen.
Booker’s brief call with the Cowboys concluded with remarks from Jones. The Cowboys owner joked with Booker, bringing up his own past as an offensive lineman.
“I’m an old offensive lineman, believe it or not,” Jones said. “They always are the best looking, they’re the smartest and they own the damn team. So that’s an offensive lineman.”
Booker will likely line up at right guard when his Dallas stint begins.
