A former DeSoto standout will soon work out for the Dallas Cowboys.
The team reported on its website Thursday that the Cowboys are hosting defensive end DeVere Levelston and other players for a workout after mandatory minicamp concludes. Levelston last played for the United Football League’s Memphis Showboats, posting 13 total tackles, two sacks and two tackles for loss.
Before his UFL stint, Levelston spent most of the 2024 season on the Seattle Seahawks’ practice squad. He originally signed with the Seahawks in May 2024 as an undrafted free agent out of SMU.
Levelston was at SMU for four years, posting 90 total tackles, 16 tackles for loss and 11 sacks as a Mustang. He started his collegiate career at Tyler Junior College, transferring to SMU ahead of the 2020 season.
Levelston earned multiple all-district honors as a high schooler at DeSoto.
Former Oklahoma star and 2022 fourth-round draft pick Perrion Winfrey is also among the group of players to be worked out.
The defensive tackle made the All-UFL team this season, and was named to second-team All-Big 12 in both of his seasons with the Sooners.
Other players the Cowboys will take a look at are cornerbacks Robert Rochell and Jerry Jacobs, along with offensive tackle George Fant.
The Cowboys have a strong history with players making the jump from spring football to the NFL. KaVontae Turpin and Brandon Aubrey are among their standouts with experience in what used to be the USFL.
