Irving has been keeping an eye on the Mavericks since he’s been sidelined. He was one of many NBA players reacting on social media after the Dallas’ unlikely rise to the top of the 2025 draft board.

On Tuesday, Irving posted “1.8%” on X, formerly known as Twitter, followed by a pair of laughing emojis, referencing the percent chance Dallas had of acquiring the top overall selection.

Prior to the injury, Irving, who was named to his ninth All-Star Game last season, was averaging 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.6 assists in 50 games. It was one of the guard’s more efficient seasons, with shooting splits of 47.3% from the field, 40.1% from 3 and 91.6% from the free throw line.

Irving has sustained several left knee injuries in his 14-year career, dating to the 2015 playoffs. In Game 1 of the NBA Finals, he suffered a patellar fracture that required surgery. He didn’t return to the Cleveland Cavaliers until December of the following season. His 2018 season with the Boston Celtics also ended early because of an infection from two screws in the knee that needed to be removed.
