Oklahoma freshman Jeremiah Fears declares for 2025 NBA draft

The Sooners’ leading scorer in 2024-25, Fears is already being projected as a high first-round draft selection.

On Wednesday Oklahoma guard Jeremiah Fears announced his plans to declare for the 2025 NBA draft.

Fears, a 6-4 freshman out of Arizona, led the Sooners in scoring during the 2024-25 season and helped OU to an NCAA Tournament appearance where they lost in the first round to UConn.

“This year has been an incredible journey, and I am grateful for all the love and I have received from the OU fan base,” Fears wrote Wednesday in a post on social media. “I want to express my gratitude to Coach Moser and the entire coaching staff, who believed in me and allowed me to showcase my abilities at the University of Oklahoma.”

Fears was the big get for head coach Porter Moser last offseason, a four-star recruit ranked No. 65 nationally and No. 2 in the state of Arizona. He averaged 17.1 points per game for Oklahoma and shot 43.3% from the field (28.4% from 3-point range).

His season highlights include a 31-point performance vs. then-No. 15 Missouri in which he shot 9-of-13 from the field and 12-of-12 from the free throw line. The Sooners won 96-84. Fears also put up 30 points against No. 24 Michigan in December in a game where Fears completed a four-point play with just 11 seconds left on the clock. Oklahoma won by one point.

“To my family and loved ones,” Fears wrote, “particularly my mom, dad, brothers and sister, thank you for your constant and the sacrifices you’ve made. With that, I’m thrilled to share that I’m entering the 2025 NBA Draft. Boomer!”

It’s early, but the 18-year-old Fears is already projected as a high first-round pick in the 2025 NBA draft in June. The latest mock drafts from both Sports Illustrated and Bleacher Report had Fears being selected at No. 6 overall.
