8 Mustangs named to All-ACC teams in SMU’s first season in the conference

The announcement comes with the Ponies getting ready to play in the ACC title game Saturday against Clemson

SMU’s dream debut season in the Atlantic Coast Conference continued Tuesday with the conference’s announcement that eight Mustangs were selected to All-ACC teams.

That figure is tied with Miami and Duke for the second most selections in the conference. Clemson led the way with 10 players selected across the three All-ACC teams.

Three SMU players — running back Brashard Smith, defensive tackle Jared Harrison-Hunte and safety Isaiah Nwokobia — made the All-ACC first team. Of those three, Smith received the most with 163 points from the 71 voters (54 media and the conference’s 17 head coaches). Smith led SMU in rushing with 1157 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns this season.

Center Jakai Clark and linebacker Kobe Wilson both received second-team selections while quarterback Kevin Jennings and offensive linemen PJ Williams and Logan Parr receieved third-team nods. Twelve other SMU players received honorable mentions.

The No. 9 Mustangs are preparing to face No. 12 Clemson in the ACC Championship game Saturday in Charlotte. SMU dominated ACC competition in their first season in the conference compiling a perfect 8-0 record on their way to an 11-1 regular season. The Ponies can secure their spot in the College Football Playoff with a win on Saturday. A loss would leave their postseason fate in the hands of the selection committee.
