He made his NHL debut with the Maple Leafs in 2020, appearing in four games for the club before he was traded to Florida for Denis Malgin. Although it was a long road, Marchment found what he was looking for with the Panthers as he appeared in 87 games and notched 57 points with the club before g with the Stars in 2022.

3. Hockey runs in the family

Marchment’s father, Bryan, played in the NHL for 17 years and was a scout with San Jose for 15 years. The elder Marchment had strong connections to the current coaching staff of the Stars, including head coach Peter DeBoer and assistant Steve Spott.

Bryan died in 2022 before his son signed with the Stars.

“He was a big part of my career, was a big role model for me and someone I always looked up to,” Mason said of his dad. “He always just said ‘Go out there, have fun and play hard.’ That’s what I’ve been trying to do throughout my whole career. Definitely thankful for everything he did for me growing up.”

Mason also has a cousin, Kennedy, who currently plays for the Premier Women’s Hockey Federation’s Montreal Victoire.

4. Slow start in Dallas

He had a bumpy first season with the Stars in 2022-23 in which he tallied just 31 points, which caused his newly-signed contract to draw the ire of Stars fans.

But Marchment has righted the ship in the two seasons since, ing 53 points in 2023-24 and 47 points in 2024-25. He scored a career-high 22 goals in the 2023-24 and matched that total the best season.

5. Learned from a former figure skating star

During his time with the Maple Leafs organization, Marchment got to work with skating consultant Barb Underhill. In fact, Marchment credited Underhill for helping him develop through the early portion of his professional career.

Underhill ed the Maple Leafs in 2012, bringing an array of experience that included a 1984 World Championship in pair skating and appearances in the 1980 and 1984 Winter Olympics. Before ing the Toronto organization, she worked with teams like the New York Rangers, Tampa Bay Lightning and Anaheim Ducks.

“If you ask her, when we talk about it, she never thought we would get to here,” Marchment told NHLPA’s Chris Lomon in November. “Once we started working with each other, she realized that I really wanted to get better. That’s the one she said when we did start working together. She said, ‘As long as you’re working hard out here, I’ll never give up on you.’”
