Just two weeks into the season, the injury bug has already started to spread around the WNBA and Dallas Wings rookie Paige Bueckers is the latest star to catch it.
The Wings announced Friday that Bueckers had been placed under the league’s concussion protocol following the team’s 97-92 loss to the Chicago Sky on Thursday and that she will miss a minimum of two games. Bueckers, the No. 1 pick in last month’s WNBA draft, was averaging 14.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 6.7 assists before being ruled out.
With Bueckers now sidelined, three of the WNBA’s biggest stars are currently injured.
Minnesota Lynx forward Napheesa Collier, an MVP frontrunner who is averaging 26.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per game, could miss Friday’s contest against the Phoenix Mercury with a knee injury.
Indiana Fever phenom Caitlin Clark has been out with a left quad strain that the Fever announced Monday will keep her out at least two weeks.
Clark was averaging 19 points, 6 rebounds and 9.3 assists before the injury.
She and Bueckers, the WNBA’s last two No. 1 picks, are scheduled to face off on June 27 at American Airlines Center when the Fever come to town to play the Wings.
